Position: SSF Chair
Email Beverley BryantBeverley enjoys telling traditional Scottish stories, legends of King Arthur and wonder tales, as well as reinterpreting classic literature for a modern day audience. She particularly enjoys stories that remind us what makes us human.
As a full-time teacher of English in a Fife secondary school, Beverley is usually to be found telling stories to 11-18 year olds, mostly in a classroom setting. She is also at home telling to children about to make that all important transition to high school. She regularly tells stories to adults too. No-one is ever too old for a story!
Beverley particularly enjoys bringing literature to life for young people, from Chaucer to Noyes and Shakespeare, to name a few. Once a young person has heard the story, unfamiliar language in its written form seems to become so much less of a barrier.
Another part of her work which she finds most enjoyable involves helping young people to grow in confidence and find their own voices through storytelling.
Beverley is very interested in working with other teachers with an interest in developing their own or their pupils’ skills. As well as working with primary and secondary colleagues, she regularly presents short workshops to visiting teachers who are teaching English in their home countries.
Beverley is available twilight, evening and weekends during term time and daily during the school holidays.
