Penicuik Community Arts Association presents “Oor Toon”

Six FREE storytelling workshops

led by local professional storyteller Ruth Kirkpatrick Saturday 2 July-Tuesday 6 September 2022 Arts Centre, 4 West Street, Penicuik, EH26 9HY

Sign up now for a series of six free storytelling workshops, running from 2 July to 6 September, being led by professional storyteller Ruth Kirkpatrick. In these workshops, taking place as part of Scotland’s Year of Stories, participants will learn how to recognise and develop their own stories and to share them with small audiences in a safe, supportive and encouraging environment.

Free workshops Become a story-teller!

We are Sue Owen, chair of the Penicuik Community Arts Association (PCAA), and Ruth Kirkpatrick, a professional storyteller who has lived locally for over 20 years. We’re very excited to be venturing out on this new initiative. The PCAA has been awarded funding from the Year of
Stories 2022 project to develop oral Storytelling in the Penicuik area, and hopefully to develop and nurture a culture of storytelling.

Are you interested in joining our storyteller development programme, or in joining our audience of listeners? We’d like to reach out to everyone – especially if you wouldn’t usually do this sort of thing.

There are twelve free places on this programme of six workshops which take place between July and October at Penicuik Arts Centre (in West Street, just off the town centre).
You’ll be encouraged to develop your telling of any kind of story: traditional, historical or personal, to build the confidence and skills of this group, and hopefully help to sustain a Storytelling Club in the town.

The Club will aim to meet once a month in October, November and December, and will hopefully gain enough interest to carry on into 2023. As part of the programme we can also offer some free storytelling visits, as a way to give you wider experience of how professionals tell stories to an audience.

Places are limited. For more details and to book your place email [email protected]

or text 0781 505 2929.
